Kirstie Alley Dead at 71

Her children shared a statement revealing that she had cancer

Kirstie Alley has died. The actor, best known for her role on the sitcom Cheers and many other shows and films, died of cancer. She was 71.

Her children, True and Lillie Parker, announced the news in a statement on social media, revealing that the cancer had only been recently discovered. The statement reads, "She was surrounded by her closest family and fought with great strength, leaving us with a certainty of her never-ending joy of living and whatever adventures lie ahead. As iconic as she was on screen, she was an even more amazing mother and grandmother." 
 

A representative confirmed to People that Alley had colon cancer.

She won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for her role as Rebecca Howe on Cheers, also garnering award nominations for later series Veronica's Closet and The Last Don. The actor appeared in movies like Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982), Look Who's Talking (1089), Village of the Damned (1995) and many more.

In recent years, Alley was a fixture of reality TV, starring in Kirstie Alley's Big Life and appearing on Celebrity Big Brother, Dancing with the Stars and The Masked Singer.
