While he's known best for his villainous on-screen actions, Danny Trejo is being hailed as a hero after rescuing a child trapped in an overturned car after a collision in Los Angeles.
Trejo leapt into action yesterday (August 7) after witnessing a two-car collision that caused one vehicle to roll over. "There was a baby inside and a grandma," the 75-year-old told Los Angeles' KABC News.
Trejo said he tried crawling into the vehicle through a broken window, but wasn't able to undo the belt on the child's carseat. He eventually freed the child with the help of another bystander, who was able to undo the seatbelt so Trejo could pull him to safety.
The actor then kept the child calm while firefighters worked to free his guardian from the vehicle. "He was panicked. I said OK, we have to use our superpowers. So he screamed 'superpowers' and we started yelling 'superpowers," Trejo recalled. "I said do this, with the muscles. He said 'muscles.' We got kind of a bond. I kept facing him away from the accident."
The Los Angeles Fire Department told KABC that three people were taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
"Everything good that has happened to me has happened as a direct result of helping someone else," Trejo told KABC. "Everything."
