Following the success of the Super Mario Bros. at the box office, it's been revealed that Nintendo's next film adaptation will be based on action-adventure franchise The Legend of Zelda.
Via the gaming giant's official X (formerly Twitter) account, Legend of Zelda co-creator and game designer Shigeru Miyamoto shared this week (November 7) that a live-action movie set in the Kingdom of Hyrule had officially entered development.
"This is Miyamoto. I have been working on the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda for many years now with [Avi Arad], who has produced many mega hit films," he wrote. "I have asked Avi-san to produce this film with me, and we have now officially started the development of the film with Nintendo itself heavily involved in the production. It will take time until its completion, but I hope you look forward to seeing it."
Plot and casting details of the Zelda film remain to be seen. The latest instalment of the game series arrived this year with the Weeknd-approved Tears of the Kingdom.
Variety reports that Wes Ball has been attached to the project as director, while a screenplay will be written by Derek Connolly (Jurassic World).
Co-producer Arad is best known for producing every live-action Spider-Man film and the animated Spider-Verse films, in addition to video game adaptations like last year's Uncharted and a forthcoming Borderlands film.
