Despite the occasional misstep, videogames continue to remain ripe for film adaptation, and another title set to make the crossover is first-person shooter Borderlands.
As Deadline reports, Eli Roth is set to direct a feature-length adaptation of the Gearbox Software PC-console title for Lionsgate, with production expected to begin later this ear.
"I'm so excited to dive into the world of Borderlands and I could not be doing it with a better script, producing team, and studio," Roth told the site. "I look forward to bringing my own energy, ideas, and vision to the wild, fun, and endlessly creative world of the game... We are out to make a new classic, one which the fans of the game will love, but also one which will find new audiences globally."
A Borderlands adaptation has been in the works at Lionsgate since 2015. The film will follow the events of the series's 2009 debut; set in a distant future where four "Vault Hunters" battle corporations and military forces in search of alien technologies on planet Pandora
Deadline adds that the Borderlands adaptation will be produced by Erik Feig, Avi and Ari Arad, while Craig Mazin will write the screenplay. The film will be executive produced by Gearbox founder Randy Pitchford and Strauss Zelnick, chairman and CEO of Take-Two Interactive.
The franchise's most recent game, Borderlands 3, was released last September.
