Saturday Night Live returns for its 43rd season this weekend with guests Ryan Gosling and JAY-Z, and the long-running sketch show has revealed which comedy up-and-comers will be joining the cast.

Heidi Gardner, Luke Null and Chris Redd have each been added as featured players for the upcoming season.

Gardner hails from Kansas City and has previously appeared as the voice of Cooch in SuperMansion and Melissa McCarthy's upcoming 2018 film Life of the Party.

Null, meanwhile, has been honing his musical-leaning comedy talents at Chicago-based improv theatre and training centre, iO Chicago.

Finally, rapper-comedian Redd has appeared in projects like SNL alums the Lonely Island's Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping and Netflix original series Disjointed.

The newbies have some big shoes to fill, as former cast members Bobby Moynihan, Vanessa Bayer and Sasheer Zamata all announced their departures from the show after last May's season finale.

They'll look to put their talents to the test along with the show's latest batch of writing staff hires, including Sam Jay, Gary Richardson, Erik Marino, Andrew Dismukes, Steven Castillo, Claire Friedman, and Nimesh Patel.

As previously reported, SNL returns to television screens "live from New York" this Saturday night (September 30) at 11:30 p.m.
