WondaGurl

"The North"

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Aug 12, 2014

Brampton, ON beatmaker WondaGurl is mining patriotic territories, sampling elements of both the Canadian and U.S. national anthems in a new instrumental boomer called "The North."

Following a quick, faded-out snippet of "The Star-Spangled Banner," WondaGurl busts out a bass-heavy rumble of chanted out vocals, clacking hi-hat hits and more. As she slows down the track, it becomes increasingly clear that the choir is delivering a passionate "O Canada," while the rest of the track includes a quick speech about the greatness of being up north, placing us in a league of our own.

You'll find the flag-waving, mother country-loving shaker, premiered in concert earlier this year at the 2014 SXSW Texas VS Toronto Beat Battle, down below.
