New Domino signees Wet Leg have shared their debut single "Chaise Longue," which has arrived complete with a video.
Inspired by the band members' shared affinity for French disco, "Chaise Longue" is Wet Leg's tongue-in-cheek introduction to the world. The pair from the Isle of Wight — who, interestingly enough, formed at the summit of a Ferris wheel — greet us with an audacious sense of humour, lyrically interpolating the iconic line from Mean Girls: "Is your muffin buttered? / Would you like us to assign someone to butter your muffin?"
The single was produced by Alan Moulder (Arctic Monkeys, Beach House, Foals) and is driven by an insistently catchy guitar progression.
The self-directed video sees Wet Leg's Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers in floppy straw sun-hats and Little House on the Prairie-esque dresses, styled with braided pigtails and trendy sunglasses. They dance in bursts between roaming the fields and sitting on a front porch — toggling between deadened facial expressions and spurts of frenetic energy.
