Isle of Wight's Wet Leg have finally unveiled plans for their debut album, ushering in the news with the double-single of "Too Late Now" and "Oh No," alongside an extensive run of new tour dates in Europe, the US and Canada.
The duo of Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers burrowed into our brains this summer with their infectious first single "Chaise Longue" and continued their winning streak of blazing tongue-in-cheek post-punk amid pastoral scenes of their homeland with "Wet Dream."
Those two singles will join today's double offering and eight yet-unreleased tunes for Wet Leg's self-titled debut LP next spring: Wet Leg is due April 8, 2022, via Domino.
"Wet Leg was originally just supposed to be funny," Teasdale said of the band's impetus. "As a woman, there's so much put on you, in that your only value is how pretty or cool you look. But we want to be goofy and a little bit rude. We want to write songs that people can dance to — and we want people to have a good time, even if that might not possible all of the time."
Beginning in December and carrying on through till May of 2022, the band will play shows in North America and the UK — many of which have already sold out. Among the newly announced are their stops at Toronto's Horseshoe Tavern on March 6, Montreal's Bar le Ritz PBD on March 8 and Vancouver's Wise Hall on March 25. Tickets go on sale here later this week, on Thursday (December 2) and Friday (December 3).
Of introspective new single "Too Late Now," Teasdale explained in a statement:
It is about sleepwalking into adulthood. I never imagined that my adult life would look the way it does and I guess this song reflects on some of the pressures and pulls of life. Sometimes I get really inside my head and everything can feel very overwhelming. I think this song is about accepting that life can feel a bit shit from time to time. Maybe don't indulge that thought too much though. Just take some time for yourself: take a breath, have a bath; it might make you feel a bit better.
