Thanks to the inclusion of "Superman" in the first instalment of his top-selling video game franchise those many years ago, Tony Hawk and Goldfinger are inextricable from one another. Knowing this, it's only right that the skateboarding legend and the long-running ska-punk outfit got together to perform the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater soundtrack favourite.
Over the weekend (January 14), Hawk joined Goldfinger onstage during a performance in Anaheim, CA, lending his vocals to "Superman" after being introduced to the crowd as "Mr. Tony Fucking Hawk" by frontman John Feldmann — ensuring that everyone knew who he was.
Though his skating skills are likely better than his singing, Hawk still turned in a quality performance — even reaching for the high note in the final chorus. He stuck the landing in the end, telling the crowd, "That song has defined our video game series for decades. It's been an honour to finally join these guys."
Last year, Hawk's life and work were explored in Sam Jones's documentary Tony Hawk: Until the Wheels Fall Off.
