At a court hearing today (April 5), Tory Lanez was handcuffed and had his bail increased for violating the terms of a protective order in his felony assault case for the alleged shooting of Megan Thee Stallion.
As reported by TMZ and Rolling Stone, he is expected to be released from custody after posting the new $350,000 USD bail. Under the terms of the protective order, Lanez was prohibited from contacting or coming within 100 yards of Megan Thee Stallion, who accused the Canadian artist of shooting her in the foot in 2020.
However, Judge David V. Herriford ruled today that Lanez violated the order due to the fact that some of the rapper's tweets "seem to be clear messages" to Megan. It was ruled that Lanez is "not to mention the complaining witness in this case in any social media."
In February 2022, Lanez tweeted that "Good D*ick had me fucking 2 best friends .... and I got caught ... that's what I apologize 4. ... It's sick how u Spun it tho," the "u" in question being a reference to Megan and in violation of the protective order.
Tory Lanez's lawyer confirmed to Rolling Stone, "The D.A. requested no bail or, in the alternative, $5 million bail, and the court rejected those arguments and increased bail to $350,000. And that bail is being posted now." Lanez's bail had previously been increased after he performed at Miami's Rolling Loud festival in 2021, where Megan was also performing.
The alleged shooting took place in July 2020. A few months later, Lanez was charged with assault with a semiautomatic firearm, personal use of a firearm and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle. Lanez has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
