As Tory Lanez serves the first year of his 10-year sentence for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in 2020, his crime is already being dramatized for the small screen.
Baltimore filmmaker Alvin Gray released The Rapper Who Got Shot in the Heel on February 13 via Amazon and Tubi, and, although it doesn't directly name Meg or Lanez, it's since gone viral online for its blatant references to the situation.
An official synopsis of the film reads:
Music artist Raven the Stallion and Cory Gainz have a secret love affair behind their friend Chelsea's back. One night, after a lot of partying and drinking, everything goes wrong, leading to a shooting that will forever change their relationship.
The parallels are pretty shameless — naming the main two characters Raven the Stallion and Cory Gainz speaks for itself — but, even the film's title refers to the case (Meg got shot in the foot) and Chelsea is a clear reference to Meg's friend Kelsey Nicole, who was present the night of the shooting.
Upon seeing the poster after it blew up on X (formerly Twitter) this weekend, the internet is having a field day roasting the project for its lazy renaming process.
Meanwhile, Gray, seemingly cognizant that making what looks to be a spoof film of a real-life violent crime could be taken in poor taste, took to Instagram to defend himself.
"I was intrigued by that whole thing. Because — this is my opinion, personally — a lot of things didn’t make sense," he said in the post. "Guilty, not guilty, whatever the case may be, certain things just didn’t make sense to me which is intriguing. That’s how I am as a filmmaker."
"I did not poke fun at that woman," he continued, still without naming Meg directly. "I want you to understand this movie is not poking fun at domestic violence or anyone getting hurt or anyone getting shot. If you truly are a fan of mine, you know I don’t even get down like that."
