Toronto label and production house Division 88 has announced a freestyle contest, calling local rappers and poets to test out their skills using a pre-made catalogue of hip-hop beats.
Contestants will be eligible to win a free recording session with the Kensington-based label. All you have to do to enter is download Division 88's Beat Tape Vol. 1 through the label's website (or listen below) and upload a 30-second freestyle to Instagram using the hashtag #88freestyle.
Beat Tape Vol. 1 gives contestants plenty to choose from, with 12 tracks created by four different local producers, including Alan Tracy, Grand Analog's Catalist, Billy Wild and Gabriel Pick of the Pick Brothers Band.
The contest is open now and runs until October 14. Exclaim! will announce the winner on October 16.
