Michael Nesmith — the American musician, songwriter, actor and producer known best as singer and guitarist of the Monkees — has died. Nesmith's family confirmed he passed away of natural causes today. He was 78.
"With Infinite Love we announce that Michael Nesmith has passed away this morning in his home, surrounded by family, peacefully and of natural causes," his family said in a statement [via Rolling Stone]. "We ask that you respect our privacy at this time and we thank you for the love and light that all of you have shown him and us."
Nesmith's passing leaves Micky Dolenz as the last surviving member of the Monkees. Singer/bassist Peter Tork died in 2019, while frontman Davy Jones passed away in 2012.
Nesmith and Dolenz completed a Monkees farewell tour this year, playing their final show November 14 at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles.
