Hamilton musician Gene Champagne — the drummer for Teenage Head and the Killjoys — has been released from hospital following his COVID-19 diagnosis late last month.
Champagne shared news of his release today on social media, thanking fans and listeners for "every single well wish prayer and love sent my way" during his time in hospital."
"I cannot express how taken back I have been by the love of each and every one of you," Champagne wrote. "I have had many messages from people that I don't really know offering healing prayers. I have no words to express how that kindness feels. Thank you all so so much..I Love you!! I also need to thank my beautiful wife Julie Champagne for being my whole world."
Champagne confirmed that he will continue recovering from COVID-19 at home, writing, "I'm very weak and have alot of work to do but promise to get there soon. I dream of playing again sometime soon. And give each and every one of you a hug!"
News of Champagne's COVID-19 diagnosis broke in late March, after the artist contracted COVID-19 through his full-time job outside music. As his symptoms worsened, he got pneumonia and was put on a ventilator in the intensive care unit at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington.
Last Monday (April 6), it was reported that Champagne was breathing on his own after being taken off the ventilator. You can find his message shared this afternoon down below.
In addition to his work with Teenage Head and the Killjoys, Champagne plays drums for Hamilton's Tongue Fu, and fronts local outfit the Un-Teens.
