Supermoon 'Comet Lovejoy' (EP stream)
Published May 19, 2015A couple of years ago, a Vancouver indie-pop band called Movieland made their debut with a cassette EP. Following a lineup switcheroo and a name change to Supermoon, the rechristened project is now back with another tape. Comet Lovejoy is due out on June 2 on Alarum Records and it's available to stream right now.
Much like Movieland, Supermoon keep things poppy and boppy, with sonic reference points including the rosters of Slumberland Records and Flying Nun Records. "Tragedy" is a fast and fuzzy response to witnessing tough times, while "Cowardly" offsets the band's sunny melodies with atonal guitar licks, and dreamily climactic finale "Burnout of My Dreams" borrows lyrics from R.E.M.'s "The One I Love."
The six-song EP was recorded by Jay Arner at the Vancouver art space Red Gate. Hear it below.
Supermoon will release the tape with a show on May 30 with Chris-a-riffic and Hermetic at Horses Records. Get the details surrounding the show on Facebook. The tape will be available in a run of 100 and the jacket comes in four different colours: blue, pink, orange and purple.
