Vancouver experimental songwriter Stefana Fratila has an album called Efemera due out on June 21, and in the meantime, she has shared a new mix through Montreal label/management/distribution collective Summer Cool Music.
The 53-minute mix is dubbed Be Softer (Mix for Cruisin'). It features music from 13 bands, including classic punk act the Slits, '70s soul singer Minnie Riperton, veteran South African jazz artist Letta Mbulu and '80s disco artist Oby Onyioha. There's also some local indie talent like Jack J (of Pender Street Steppers), Bobo Eyes and D. Tiffany, with the whole thing amounting to a vibrant collage of dance grooves, dreamy electronic soundscapes and world-spanning pop.
