Sebastien Tellier

Sexuality Remix

BY Daniel SylvesterPublished Sep 13, 2010

Two years after the release of his third LP (Sexuality), Sebastien Tellier gives fans one last quickie with Sexuality Remix. Collecting 11 previously released remixes, and adding four exclusives, Sexuality Remix pulls together some of the best knob-twiddlers around (A-Trak, Midnight Juggernauts), alongside a handful of up-and-coming French artists (Breakbot, Danger). Countrymen SebastiAn and Kavinsky tackle two of Sexuality's most immediate tracks; "Sexual Sportswear" completely eschews the song's impassioned overtones for big, dumb dance beats, while "Roche" manages to make Tellier sound even sexier. Berlin's Boys Noize ("l'Amour et la Violence") and Brussels' Aeroplane ("Kilometer") both give their songs an embroidered Euro-Dance slant, employing scuffling, synthesized rhythms and perfectly timed accents. Although the majority of artists employ the same maximalist angle (with the exceptions of Kapser Winding and Floating Point's nimble atmospherics), Sexuality Remix is better digested in small doses, because even the purest ecstasy can't get you through four versions of "Kilometer."
