Red Hot Chili Peppers are less than a month away from the release of Universal Love, the reunion record with classic-era guitarist John Frusciante, and they've just shared the new single "Poster Child."
Miles away from the pirate-inflected alt-rock of "Black Summer," "Poster Child" is a mellow funk jam featuring a wah-laced groove and a satisfying word salad from frontman Anthony Kiedis, who delivers rapid-fire verses for the bulk of the song's five-minute runtime. With references to Taco Bell, Karate Kid and an endless list of '70s and '80s bands, it sounds a bit like "We Didn't Start the Fire" combined with RHCP deep cut "Walkabout."
The song also has an animated video, but it's currently only on Facebook and not on YouTube.
Listen to "Poster Child" below. Universal Love is out on April 1 through Warner Records.
