For over a decade the brothers Hartnoll have been putting out the most consistent electronic albums in the dance community. On The Altogether, their sixth release, Orbital hit us baby one more time, but with a collection of shorter "singles" rather than the more cohesive releases of yore. No mind. The all over the map tracks range from a surreally stirring break-beat stomp on the Doctor Who theme ("Doctor?") and the funky, Ian Dury-sampling pogo-bounce of "Oi!" to an aerobic techno workout to Tool's "Sober" ("Tootled") and the aptly titled, 11-minute opus "Meltdown." Along the way jazz, funk, R&B and punk get meshed into that familiar futurism - albeit feeling a little grimier this time around, as if the future wasn't so pristinely distant anymore. Oh, and we get a second disc of remixes and B-sides. Nice.
