Experimental electronic duo CHXMERAS, comprised of Vancouver-based nêhiyaw/Denesuline musician Jarrett Martineau and UK/Canadian musician Paul Finlay, have announced their new EP Second Sight. A follow-up to their 2024 debut LP Terminal City, Second Sight arrives June 13.
The duo explain that Second Sight is about "standing face-to-face with the wild, furious, anything goes, free-for-all, free fall present moment that we're all living through." Sharing insight about the creation of the EP, they further revealed, "When we set out to make this record, we didn't know where we would end up, but we knew that we wanted it to sound and feel like the chaos and anxieties that are swirling all around us."
Martineau and Finlay described the production process of the EP's first track and single "Sublimation" as feeling like they were being "guided by premonitions." The track channels these feelings of "being hurtled through space towards and unknown destination and unknowable outcomes," capturing that "frenetic energy and tak[ing] its power back before everything cascades fully out of control."
