The National's Matt Berninger's debut solo album will arrive less than a month from now, and in the meantime, the frontman has shared yet another cut from the effort in a new track titled "One More Second."
The song hosts one of Berninger's many illustrious contributors featured on Serpentine Prison, Matt Sheehy, who plays bass on tour for Berninger's EL VY.
"I wrote 'One More Second' with Matt Sheehy (Lost Lander, EL VY) with the intention for it to be a kind of answer to Dolly Parton's 'I Will Always Love You,' or sort of the other side of that conversation," Berninger said in a statement. "I just wanted to write one of those classic, simple, desperate love songs that sound great in your car."
Previous to his latest release, Berninger shared the record's title track, "Serpentine Prison," which features production by Booker T. Jones, as well as contributions by Sean O'Brien and Harrison Whitford.
In addition to Jones, O'Brien and Whitford, the album will include appearances from Matt Barrick (the Walkmen, Jonathan Fire*Eater), Andrew Bird, Mike Brewer, Hayden Desser, Scott Devendorf (the National), Gail Ann Dorsey (David Bowie, Lenny Kravitz), Teddy Jones, Brent Knopf (EL VY, Menomena), Ben Lanz (the National, Beirut), Walter Martin (the Walkmen, Jonathan Fire*Eater), Mickey Raphael (Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan) and Kyle Resnick (the National, Beirut).
Serpentine Prison will arrive on October 2 via Book Records, a new label that is a collaboration between Berninger and Booker T. Jones, alongside Concord Records.
