Madlib Set to Drop 'The Beats' 10-inch

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Aug 19, 2014

Sample-crazy producer Madlib has issued his fair share of instrumental records over the years, and he'll be giving us another collection of next month under the self-explanatory title, The Beats.

The album serves as the score to Stones Throw's recent Our Vinyl Weighs a Ton documentary, and it will arrive September 9 on a 10-inch record. Two separate soundtrack covers will be delivered, with the "Death Edition" featuring skull-showcasing artwork and the "Girl Edition" featuring a picture of a VW van.

Being a score, the tracklist plays out as a series of "Cues." There are 10 overall, and you can check the break-heavy, sitar- and strings-slathered "Cue 4" in a stream down below. While this makes for the first appearance of these tracks on vinyl, the songs were previously made available on CD with the DVD release of Our Vinyl Weighs a Ton.

You can pre-order the 10-inch here.

In related news, Stones Throw founder Peanut Butter Wolf has announced a partnership with Scandinavian company AIAIAI to produce a pair of Stones Throw headphones. To help promote the audio headwear, a contest has been created in which fans are invited to drop a verse on Charizma and Peanut Butter Wolf's "My World Premiere," the first ever single from the label. This can be done via an app that offers up an instrumental of the beat. The winner will be announced September 8, and they will have their version pressed onto a 7-inch at a later date.

You can discover more about the project over and download the app here, while a trailer for the contest can be found down below.
