No matter what currency you'd like to sell England by, the case for the deportation of Emily in Paris grows ever stronger: the titular star of the Darren Star Netflix series that was just renewed for Season 5, Lily Collins, found herself in too deep when asked what her favourite Genesis song is.
For the uninitiated, Emily in Paris follows Emily Cooper, a corporate marketing girly from Chicago who takes a work opportunity in, you guessed it, Paris. Despite not speaking a lick of French, she somehow manages to build a massive Instagram following and end up in at least one love triangle, all with Cocomelon-levels of visual interest from funky outfits.
Doing press for the show's fourth season, Collins — famously the daughter of Phil Collins (Canadians, they're kind of like Eugene and Dan Levy!) — and co-star Ashely Park recently appeared on Watch What Happens Live, where an edition of the "Clubhouse Jukebox" segment provided host Andy Cohen the opportunity to ask the actor which of her dad's band's iconic hits was her favourite.
While Collins easily cited "In the Air Tonight" as her pick from her father's solo material, she was visibly stressed by Cohen's follow-up probe, drawing out a long "Oooooooh" to stall as she tried to come up with an answer. The actor paused, looking down for a beat. Eventually, she admitted, "I don't know if I have one."
"You know, the funny thing is that I have these memories as a kid of songs that I don't know if they're actually real, because they were in my head as I was maybe in the womb," she explained, almost effectively shifting the subject in her favour. "But then when I went to the first Genesis concert that I actually remembered as an adult, there were songs that came on that I went, 'That's a real song? I thought that was just a melody in my head.' It was really weird; it was like, confirmed."
Not sure that it's necessarily a viable excuse, but it's a nice (invisible) touch. Collins was present in 2022 when her dad — who was recently reported to be working on his first new music in 20-plus years — played the final Genesis concert in London, UK.
