This year marks the 50th anniversary of King Crimson's formation, and the prog-rock mainstays have announced celebrations including an international tour, a new documentary, catalogue reissues and more.
To celebrate their milestone year, King Crimson will map out a 50-date tour across three continents. A handful of dates have already been announced, including a three-night stand at London's Royal Albert Hall. You can find the current itinerary below.
UPDATE (1/21, 1 p.m. EST): King Crimson have now added several dates to their touring schedule, including Canadian shows in Toronto on September 14 and Montreal on September 17. You can see the updated schedule below, where you'll also find a second shared track from the anniversary project.
Next month, the band will deliver new box set King Crimson: 1972-1974, which will feature their Larks' Tongues in Aspic, Red, Starless and Bible Black pressed to 200-gram vinyl. In May, they'll roll out a second box set titled Heaven and Earth, a multi-disc CD/DVD-a/Blu-Ray set collecting work from the late '90s through 2008.
On top of that, King Crimson will treat their seminal 1969 debut In the Court of the Crimson King to an expanded box set reissue in October. It will feature live recordings, expanded multitrack 1969 recording sessions, a new 5.1 remix of the original album, and a coffee table book of essays and photos.
Digitally, the group will also release 50 new, rare or alternate takes from their catalogue on a weekly basis, each accompanied by a spoken word intro from King Crimson manager/producer David Singleton. The first — a radio edit of "21st Century Schizoid Man" — can be heard below. King Crimson have also planned to reissue Beat and Three of a Perfect Pair on 200-gram vinyl in 2019.
A documentary titled Cosmic F*Kc has also been set for release in late 2019. Directed by Toby Amies, the film is said to provide "unique access to the current band," in addition to interviews with past members and archive footage. An accompanying soundtrack will also see release.
