Last summer, Kelly Sloan joined forces with Daniel Romano and David Nardi to form Alias Ensemble, and the trio shared the English folk album A Splendour of Heart. For her new single, "I Wanna Wake Up," Sloan has drawn on a more contemporary palette.
Influenced by Carole King and Carly Simon and in the vein of contemporaries like Weyes Blood, "I Wanna Wake Up" is a gently twanging piano ballad driven by Sloan's yearning vocals, culminating in an orchestral swell. It marks the first in a planned series of singles produced with Jeff McMurrich (Jennifer Castle, U.S. Girls), to be followed by Sloan's new album later this year.
