After sharing a 31-minute experimental epic a couple weeks ago, Montreal's Jonah Yano has detailed the upcoming release of his third studio album, previewed today by new single "Romance ESL."
The follow-up to the polymath's 2023 LP portrait of a dog, Jonah Yano & the Heavy Loop arrives October 4 via Innovative Leisure. It features contributions from Clairo, Helena Deland and Ouri — with whom Yano joined forces for "Quiet Drumming" earlier this year — and was recorded with his live ensemble-turned-studio band (Christopher Edmonson, Benjamin Maclean, Leighton Harrell, Felix Fox-Pappas and Raiden Louie).
"If souvenir is about what I feel, and portrait of a dog is about what I remember or want to remember, then this album is about what I think," Yano explained. "And maybe that's the difference."
Previously just available on YouTube, the lengthy title track hits streaming services today alongside the springy, horn-streaked new cut "Romance ESL." Check that out below, where you'll also find the album tracklist.
