Perma-chill Vancouver Island dudes Jon and Roy have an album called By My Side due out on May 27, and before they officially release the seven-song collection, they have made it available to stream in full on Exclaim.ca.
The record was written during jams at Roy Vizer's house, and Jon Middleton said in a statement, "I listen to so many different styles of music, and I get inspired by so many different things, I end up writing different songs for each album. Musically, the songs on By My Side are linked, in the sense that they are all chorus-driven and more concise in structure than on previous releases. This album is more cohesive."
That being said, fans won't find this too much of a departure for the Victoria band, since the title track kicks off the album with a rollicking folk gallop, which is juxtaposed with quietly calm vocals. The upbeat rhythmic approach reemerges on "Where'd My Light Go" and "Every Night," while the rest of these acoustic cuts are more mellow. There's a reggae lilt to penultimate number "Trouble in Mind."

Tour dates:
06/28 Port Renfrew, BC - Tall Tree Festival
06/29 Whistler, BC - Whistler Olympic Plaza
07/25-27 Guelph, ON - Hillside Festival
08/08-10 Regina, SK - Regina Folkfest
