John Mayer Details 'Sob Rock,' Shares "Last Train Home"

Watch him live inside a John Hughes set in his new video

John Mayer emerged from the ether earlier this week to announce plans for his brand new album Sob Rock. He was pretty shy with the details at first, hinting only that the record would have an '80s vibe. Now, the artist has revealed its tracklist, alongside dropping a brand new single and video.

Today, he shares "Last Train Home," an outing very much in keeping with the "distinct 1980s soft-rock vibe lurking within [Sob Rock's] melodies and groove."

Case in point: the song arrives alongside its own Cameron Duddy- and Harper Smith-directed music video, which finds the performer living inside something like a John Hughes movie set. Anchored by synths straight out of Toto's "Africa," Mayer peppers his signature beachy vocals with an almost Rod Stewart-like quality.

"If you wanna roll me, then you gotta roll me all night long / And if you wanna use me, then you gotta use me till I'm gone," he sings.

Sob Rock is due to arrive on July 16 through Columbia Records. Previously the artist shared "New Light," "I Guess I Just Feel Like," and "Carry Me Away" from the album.
