After embarking on The Search for Everything in 2017, John Mayer has returned to announce a new album. The singer-songwriter will share Sob Rock on July 16.

News of the new effort arrived on social media today, complete with a release date and the album art you see above. While a tracklist has yet to be detailed, Mayer is already teasing the album's first single with a magazine mock-up that points to a Friday (June 4) arrival.

Wall Street Journal profile reveals the title of the single to be "Last Train Home," and points to Sob Rock packing "a distinct 1980s soft-rock vibe lurking within its melodies and grooves." A website launched ahead of the LP's arrival proclaims, "It's time to love an album again."

Mayer told WSJ of Sob Rock, "I asked myself, 'What music makes me feel like everything's going to be OK?' And it's the music I listened to growing up in the '80s. There's a security-blanket aspect about that sound that reminds me of a safer time."

Last year saw Mayer team with Leon Bridges for single "Inside Friend." In March, he joined Maren Morris at the Grammys to perform her song "The Bones."
