Jack White Saves Rock Music on New Single "Taking Me Back"

He's also released a mellow version of the same song

Jack White has released his first solo single since 2018's Boarding House Reach. "Taking Me Back" is out now.

Unlike the synth-y hip-hop experiments of Boarding House Reach, this new single is pure rock, as White blasts out four minutes of scorching fuzz riffs and screeching leads. There's even a moment where synths rise to the front of the mix. With it's no-nonsense rock riffs, the song bears some similarities to Help Us Stranger, his 2019 album with the Raconteurs. White plays every instrument on the track, which was recorded in Nashville at his own Third Man Studios.

Along with the riff-fuelled single, White has shared an acoustic version called "Taking Me Back (Gently)" as a B-side.

The song comes after White teased the single's lunar artwork with an Instagram post last week. He released the single today as part of the Call of Duty: Vanguard trailer.
