Hey Rosetta! Call It Quits
The band's upcoming Christmas shows will be their last
Published Oct 13, 2017Newfoundland's Hey Rosetta! have announced that they will be throwing in the towel, with the band's upcoming December shows being their last for the foreseeable future.
In a Facebook post this morning (October 13), the group announced that they would be stepping away from the band and "the mad cycle of it."
"It's kind of a miracle that 7 people can stay together and work single-mindedly towards one end for so long really, even something as beautiful and privileged and cool as making music," the message reads.
The band go on to reveal that they will be playing their last shows at the end of this year. They compare the decision to play the annual St. John's Christmas shows to making the choice "as to whether you want to just fade out and ghost from the party, or whether you want to say goodnight to everyone and to hug and thank them all for such a time."
Luckily for fans, Hey Rosetta! are opting for hugs. They'll also be bringing those hugs to Toronto before the year's end. See the full list of final live shows down below. Tickets go on sale on October 16 at 10 a.m. local time.
Finally, the band have detailed some of the members' upcoming and ongoing musical projects. Frontman Tim Baker is expected to release a solo record next year; Phil Maloney is opening a brewery/café; Rhomesh Thavanathan will continue producing, mixing, playing, scoring and teaching; Kinley Dowling will continue to put out music as a solo artist; Mara Pellerin will continue making music with her project Wunderstrands; and Adam Hogan and Josh Ward will keep "busy teaching and playing and working and living and loving in St John's."
During the group's time together, they've released four full-length studio albums. Their most recent was 2014's Second Sight.
