Cameron Crowe, the fabled director of Almost Famous and Jerry Maguire along with lesser movies like Aloha, is finally stepping into the TV game. Today, we get the first taste of his new television series Roadies.
Thematically, the show appears to take a similar approach to Almost Famous as it follows the behind-the-scenes life of a touring rock show. Roadies stars Imogen Poots, Carla Gugino, Luke Wilson and even Machine Gun Kelly. It was created, written and directed by Crowe, who also executive produced alongside J.J. Abrams and Winnie Holzman.
Here's how an official write-up describes the show:
Roadies gives an insider's look at the reckless, romantic, funny and often poignant lives of a committed group of "roadies" who live for music and the de facto family they've formed along the way. The music-infused ensemble comedy series chronicles the rock world through the eyes of music's unsung heroes and puts the spotlight on the backstage workers who put the show on the road while touring the United States for a successful arena-level band.
As the below trailer shows, Roadies could either be a heart-warming dramedy or the cheesiest thing you'll see on TV this year. We'll find out for sure when it hits Showtime on June 26.
