Canada's Haviah Mighty and North Carolina-based spitter Jalen Santoy have put the pedal to the metal on a new single. You can hear the two team up on Mighty's "Way Too Fast" below.
Following the previously shared "Atlantic," "Occasion," "Antisocial," "Obeah" and "Good on My Own Tonight," the fresh "Way Too Fast" doesn't find Mighty hitting the brakes. Rather, she and Santoy wish of racing along in flashy, foreign wheels — a dream you can watch the animated pair live out below courtesy of BlackPowerBarbie.
As Mighty tells it, "Way Too Fast" was born out of reflections on career momentum and milestones; from the release of album 13th Floor, to that effort capturing the 2019 Polaris Music Prize, and beyond.
"My preconceived ideas around what I was capable of achieving completely withered away. What felt impossible, now felt possible — maybe even probable. I felt this internal surge of self-belief — it was belly deep, at the pit of my core," she said of her post-Polaris feeling.
"From then on, and to this day, I thoroughly believe I have what it takes to achieve my wildest dreams. This song is a reminder to dream big, and to not put a cap on your goals and limit your potential. As a people, we've come so far. I've spent a lot of time reflecting on the work that has yet to be done, but sometimes, we have to remind ourselves of the inevitable rewards as well."
