Throughout the year, Haviah Mighty has continued to promote her Polaris Music Prize-winning 2019 album 13th Floor. Now, having wrapped up that project with her "Bag Up" video a couple of months ago, she has revealed the brand-new single "Atlantic."
Produced by Mighty Prynce, "Atlantic" is an indictment of the evils and money and unequal labour, specifically in regards to the slave trade.
The rapper said in a statement, "The Atlantic Ocean was used as a vessel of support for these wicked practices, at the expense of my Black ancestors. We were forced to come to the Americas to make this idea of value stronger, bigger, better, with very little benefit."
The release of "Atlantic" coincides with Friday the 13th — a supposed unlucky day, and a play on the same idea of ignoring the unknown that Haviah explored with the title of 13th Floor.
