Eminem

Live From New York City

BY Thomas QuinlanPublished Nov 23, 2007

With Live From New York City, recorded at Madison Square Gardens in 2005, Eminem delivers an almost flawless performance of his hits despite playing it safe with songs mostly from his newer albums. The stage sets and video effects are also phenomenal, even if Eminem needs to take greater advantage of them rather than just pacing the stage and grabbing his crotch. Proof, in his last NYC performance, is great as Em’s hype man; the rest of D12 are also nice additions, but Stat Quo and Obie Trice add up to be a bit too much when they take over the stage for a couple of songs towards the end. Worst of all is the lame drama of the three backstage interludes that ultimately end in cheese. Fans of later Eminem will eat this DVD up but those who really prefer The Slim Shady LP best avoid the indigestion here.
