Today is Spotify Wrapped day, meaning that everyone on your timeline will reveal how weird and bad their taste is. It's also the day that Spotify has revealed the year's top-streamed artists and songs in Canada.
The top artist in Canada is Taylor Swift, who also topped the global charts. Despite Drake's shaky year, he came in at No. 2 at home, with the Weeknd being the only other Canada-born artist on the list at No. 7. Beyond that, there's some generic country (Zach Bryan, Morgan Wallen, Post Malone), rap (Travis Scott, Future, Eminem). Apparently enough Canadians still listen to Kanye West to put him at No. 6?! Maybe it's the same people making The Joe Rogan Experience the top podcast.
As for the most-streamed songs, the top Canadian spot went to Shaboozey's "A Bar Song (Tipsy)" — which is no surprise considering that he smashed chart records this year. The most notable inclusion here is Kendrick Lamar's Drake diss "Not Like Us" at No. 10 — a song that became something of a global anti-Canada anthem. The most-streamed Quebecois song was Patrick Watson's "Je te laisserai des mots," a piano ballad from 2010. Cool!
The top album was obviously The Tortured Poets Department, with Swift's 1989 (Taylor's Version) also cracking the Top 10. People were stuck listening to Morgan Wallen's 2023 album One Thing at a Time and Noah Kahan's 2022 release Stick Season. Our condolences.
