What happens when you cross experimental rockers Mr. Joy with prolific bandleader Matthew "Doc" Dunn? Why, you get Dr. Joy, of course! The new collaborative outfit have just announced a self-titled album, due September 17 via Idée Fixe.
Lead single "Signed, the Body Electric" is as delightfully psychedelic as you would expect given the collection of musicians who made it. It's a shapeshifting jam driven by noisy guitar stabs underscored by shamanic vocals and clattering percussion, striking a harmonious balance between blissful and chaotic à la early Animal Collective.
This new album comes at a particularly fruitful time for both artists: Mr. Joy are releasing "mini-album" Yes! Yes! Yes! on July 9, while Dunn released four albums last year including Rain, Rain, Rain, which landed on Exclaim!'s list of Canadian Albums You Might Have Missed in 2020.
