After taking a pandemic-induced break from its usual festival fare, Toronto's favourite music and arts event Long Winter is finally set to return with a mix of in-person, virtual and hybrid events in 2021.
Festival organizers have unveiled a massive schedule of performances, art, panels and other programming beginning next month and running through late November. The newly coined "Together Apart" series will feature Fiver, LAL, Status/Non-Status, Obuxum, Mr. Joy and Zones, as well as DJ sets from FSR and Trueconnection from September 24 to 25. The two nights of programming will kick off at the Garrison's rooftop, and the audience will be able to watch from a lot across the street.
As always, the festival will also showcase visual art, with September's contributions offered by Jeremy Bailey, Hiba Abdallah, Megan Feheley, Jana Ghalayini, Heran Genene and Marie Sotto x Tristan Sauer.
Additionally, Long Winter has scheduled another two nights' worth of programming from November 26 to 27. The events will take place at Toronto's St. Anne's Anglican Church (near Dufferin Street and Dundas Street West) in-person, and virtually via Paris, France's La Station — Gare des Mines. The November lineup includes Orphx, Owen Pallett, Odonis Odonis, Bernice, Savannah Taylor, Merival, She Shn, New Chance, Club Quarantine's Casey MQ and Ceréna, Besé, Ziibiwan, Tica Holiday and more TBA.
November's art showcase will feature works from Younger than Beyoncé, Xpace Gallery, Collectif Ascidiacea and Gentrification Tax Action, as well as posters, filters and illustrations by Fion Liu — a.k.a. Sadstab.
Additional conferences, workshops and panels — including the return of Long Night with Vish Khanna — will be taking place virtually and in-person at various venues throughout the September and November events.
