Since David Berman's passing earlier this year, plenty of artists, family and friends have celebrated his life through various covers, tributes and eulogies. Today we have a brand new compilation of Berman covers, courtesy of Dear Life Records.
The new tribute record, titled Late Homework: The Songs of David Berman, features the work of Frankie Cosmos (using the moniker Franz Charcoal), Molly Drag, Old Table, Emperor X, Hello Shark, Little Kid, Ghost Pink, Lord Bendtner, Michael Cormier, Joyer, Florry, Fog Lake and more covering the music of Silver Jews and Purple Mountains.
Just this month, another tribute record was released called Approaching Perfection: A Tribute to DC Berman, featuring the work of Dean Wareham, Adam Green, Jad Fair, Jeffrey Lewis, Kyle Forester, Pete Astor, Robert Scott (of the Bats/the Clean) and many more.
These compilations are only the latest in a wave of tributes since Berman's untimely death. Artists like Kevin Morby, Woods, Anna St. Louis and First Aid Kit have all recorded covers of the late artist. Meanwhile, Toronto hosted a tribute show for Berman the night he was meant to perform in the city. Exclaim!'s own Vish Khanna penned a heartfelt memoir about the late artist.
David Berman was found dead on August 7. He was 52 years old. He was meant to head out on tour in support of his debut album as Purple Mountains just a few days later.
