After the passing of Purple Mountains/Silver Jews' David Berman last week (August 7), an event to honour the life of the late artist has been planned in Toronto for August 27.
Now, on the same night he was meant to perform at Lee's Palace in Toronto with Purple Mountains, there will be a celebration of life titled "A Stone for David Berman" held at the Tranzac Club's Main Hall. Local artists and musicians are set to perform various poems and songs.
Performers for the evening's festivities include Lightning Dust, Kritty Uranowski (of Lavenders Bruisers), Matthew "Doc" Dunn, Ayal Senior, Kyle Knapp (of Deliluh), Jesse Locke (of Tough Age and Chandra) and more, with Exclaim!'s own Vish Khanna hosting.
Tickets cost $10 (or pay-what-you-can) with all proceeds being donated to Workman Arts, Over the Bridge and Artists' Health Alliance.
More details on the event can be found here.
One month ago, Purple Mountains' debut album was released via Drag City. The label has since released their official eulogy.
