After Purple Mountains/Silver Jews' David Berman passed away earlier this month, friends, family and fans have been paying their respects. Now, Swedish sister duo First Aid Kit are paying tribute in the form of two songs dedicated to Berman.

The band shared "Strange Beauty" and "Random Rules" late last night (August 21). The first track is a new original piece from the sisters, and the second is a cover of a Silver Jews song of the same name.

Both songs are hauntingly beautiful and timely tributes to the genius gone too soon. You can listen to them down below.

First Aid Kit announced the new songs in a Twitter post last night alongside the following statement:

"Random Rules" is a long time Berman favorite & a song we always thought we would record if we ever made a cover record. It holds some of the greatest lyrics ever penned and shows the genius of David Berman. We hope the songs can be some kind of comfort.

I think a lot of people were as shocked as I was upon hearing the news of David Berman's passing. It didn't seem real. It left me completely devastated. So I wrote the song "Strange Beauty" to try to make sense of my feelings.

Lots of Love,

Klara

Besides this new First Aid Kit tribute, Berman's label Drag City penned a heartbreaking eulogy, Exclaim!'s Vish Khanna wrote a memoir about the artist and local Toronto bookers have even planned a tribute show to be held on August 27, on the date Berman was scheduled to perform in town.

Berman passed away on August 7. He was 52 years old. Read our recent interview with him about his last project as Purple Mountains.
