Our first taste of Courtney Barnett's album Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit was a bombastic rocker, but the Aussie songwriter has showed off her mellow side with the newly unveiled "Depreston."
The song features a low-key folk-rock groove with watery electric licks, and this sets a sleepy backdrop for Barnett's intimate depiction of domesticity and pondering of a potential real estate purchase. Apparently the town of Preston is such a downer that Barnett dubs it "Depreston."
The video from director Bec Kingma, meanwhile, brings the quiet-looking neighbourhood to life by taking viewers on a triple-split-screen drive around town. It doesn't look as depressing as Barnett describes, although it doesn't exactly make for an exciting clip. Watch it below.
Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit is due out on March 24 via Mom + Pop.
