They never really left, but Blur are so back. How back, you may ask? The band's Alex James is a man of several side hustles, but he has now devoted one that ensures the Britpop revival is upon us: the bassist has launched his own sparkling wine — literally called Britpop.
Bright. Overdriven. Youthful exuberance. These are a few traits that James is hoping to translate from the genre into his vino collaboration with Dorset's Furleigh Estates.
"Britpop sparkling wine. Perfect for the good times," the musician said in a promotional clip. "Great at lunchtime, great at dinner time, great at breakfast time." It's anthemic for any time of day, whether it's the early '90s or 2023.
"Great at the Great British summertime," he added in reference to the cloud cover in the background. "Lovely straight-up, or you can try pouring it over ice if it's sunny… en piscine, as they say in France. I'll drink to that. Cheers."
Labelled as "Britpop Brut by Alex James," the dry, chardonnay-based blend will be available on August 12, exclusively via Laithwaites. James trademarked Britpop in relation to his beverage ventures all the way back in 2014 — but he's been kept pretty busy living that parklife with his kismet other entrepreneurial pursuit, Alex James Co. Cheese.
