The Blood Brothers Reunite

BY Gregory AdamsPublished May 16, 2014

After seven years apart, Seattle post-hardcore surrealists the Blood Brothers have announced that they've patched things up and are once again ready to raise the fucking flag of mutiny. More specifically, they've announced a return to concert stages.

Via the usual channels of social media, the group made it known earlier today (May 16) that they'll "ring out the gong again" in 2014, this referring to their "Fucking's Greatest Hits" track from 2003's ...Burn, Piano Island, Burn LP.

So far, just one show has been confirmed. The quintet will be hitting Los Angeles' newly announced FYF Fest, with the reunion set slated to take place August 24. The festival, going down at the LA Sports Arena & Exposition Park on August 23 and 24, will also feature the likes of the Strokes, Phoenix, Slowdive, HAIM, Future Islands, Darkside, Interpol, Julian Casablancas, Grimes, Flying Lotus, Death Grips, Caribou, Earl Sweatshirt and Run the Jewels.

Following a 10-year run that include a handful of singles and five full-length releases, the Blood Brothers broke up in 2007, citing a need to "move forward on separate paths." Following the split, vocalist Johnny Whitney and guitarist Cody Votolato put the focus on their Jaguar Love project, while vocalist Jordan Blilie, bassist Morgan Henderson and drummer Mark Gajadhar reunited with original Blood Brothers member Devin Welch as Past Lives. Henderson has also kept himself busy the last few years as a member of both Fleet Foxes and Cave Singers.

It remains to be seen if the Blood Brothers will roll out more reunion dates soon.
