If it feels like ages since we've heard from Vancouver heavy masters Bison, it has been. The last time they released a proper record was way back 2014, and that was only the two-track "1,000 Needles"/"Calm, Friendly and Euthymic" 12-inch. At long last, though, the band are ready to stampede back into our lives with You Are Not the Ocean You Are the Patient, making for their first studio album since 2012.

The album is due out in Europe on June 23 and in North American on July 7. It marks the first album from Bison to include new bassist Shane Clark (formerly of 3 Inches of Blood), and it was recorded with Jesse Gander at Rain City Recorders. It follows 2012's Lovelessness LP.

For a taste of You Are Not the Ocean You Are the Patient, the group have just shared the new song "Tantrum."

"It was important that the songs fit together to tell a bit of a story," Bison guitarist and vocalist James Farwell said in a statement, "a story of a new life and escaping the city, while still being tethered to it. Life is a constant fight, and though I have taken the fight to a more natural and beautiful place, that struggle persists.

"This is an album of daily living. It is for everyone. I wanted to also steep myself in music that was not necessarily heavy in the obvious sense, so I was listening to lots of blues while writing the album: Peter Green, Muddy Waters, and Howlin' Wolf. There was also lots of instrumental rock music playing on my long commutes to Vancouver for work and rehearsals."

You can hear "Tantrum" for yourself below, where you'll also find the group's upcoming Canadian tour dates.
