Frankie Rose has returned to her fuzzy pop sound of old with Beverly, her new band with frequent collaborator Drew Citron. Their album Careers is due out on July 1 through Kanine Records, and they've just unleashed the song "Planet Birthday."
The song is a raging stomper, as a thundering rhythm section heralds buzzsaw guitars and blearily layered, reverb-shrouded vocals. While it channels Rose's usual pop smarts, this one is definitely on the heavier, darker side of her output.
