Swedish death metal mainstays Amon Amarth are set to keep plugging their devastating 2013 album Deceiver of the Gods on an upcoming North American tour.
The group get back on the road this September and will be joined the whole tour through by fellow countrymen Sabaton. U.S. thrashers Skeletonwitch will likewise be along for the dates, including a stretch of Canadian shows between Vancouver and Quebec City. While the tour will have the outfits ripping it up on standard stages, a New York appearance on October 18 finds Amon Amarth resuscitating their "Viking ship spectacle."
You'll find all of the details on the trip down below.
As on previous Amon Amarth albums, the band flirt with Viking imagery on Deceiver of the Gods, with bassist Ted Lundström having previously told Exclaim! about the gruesome torture device that inspired the set's "Blood Eagle."
"A blood eagle is a very macabre way to kill someone," he explained. "It was sometimes used by Vikings as a death punishment. It is performed by cutting up the back of the person and breaking the ribs open like wings and then pulling out the lungs. We felt this song needed some effects to really get that gory feeling."
