A concertgoer in Edmonton was stabbed and killed after attending an Amon Amarth concert last night (September 30).
The victim — who is only so far being identified as a 34-year-old man — had just left the concert when he was involved in an altercation and stabbed, CTV Edmonton reports. The stabbing took place on Jasper Avenue close to the concert's venue, the Edmonton Convention Centre.
According to the report, bystanders held the suspect at the scene until police arrived. The suspect has so far only been described as a 36-year-old man, and his identity has not yet been revealed.
While earlier today police sounded hopeful in regards to the victim's condition, they alter confirmed he had died at Royal Alexandra Hospital.
According to CTV, homicide detectives were called to the scene. So far, however, no charges have been laid.
It's unclear what started the altercation, but at least six police cars ended up at the scene, with police taping off almost an entire city block from the front of the Edmonton Convention Centre to Thornton Court.
"Theres quite a bit of video at the location of the event. And we're canvassing other buildings to see what other video is available," Parker said.
Police are now asking that any potential witnesses please come forward.
Amon Amarth's Edmonton tour date came in support of their recent Berserker album, with the tour also featuring the likes of Arch Enemy, At the Gates and Grand Magus. The bands are set to play Calgary tonight, and you can see all the upcoming tour dates here.
