After sharing the rescheduled dates for their final North American tour in April, Aerosmith have announced their retirement from touring due to Steven Tyler's persisting vocal injury.
The tour was postponed after Tyler fractured his larynx and sustained vocal cord damage during a concert in September 2023. Their plans to finally begin their farewell stint on the road a year later are now cancelled, as the band have decided to retire from touring after more than five decades together.
"We've always wanted to blow your mind when performing," Aerosmith wrote in a statement posted to social media today. "As you know, Steven's voice is an instrument like no other. He has spent months tirelessly working on getting his voice to where it was before his injury. We've seen him struggling despite having the best medical team by his side. Sadly, it is clear, that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible."
They continued, "We have made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary, decision — as a band of brothers — to retire from the touring stage."
Refunds will be automatically processed for those who bought tour tickets via Ticketmaster, while fans who purchased tickets from third-party resale sites can reach out to their point of purchase for further details. Aerosmith had been scheduled to play their final Canadian concerts in Toronto and Montreal next January.
