'Yellowjackets' Season 2 Was Inspired by Tony Soprano

"Tony Soprano is an absolute monster — but, because he's so well drawn, you understand him. That's what we're aiming for."

The new Florence + the Machine-soundtracked season of campy hit Showtime series Yellowjackets — one of Exclaim!'s best TV shows of 2022 — is almost here! And apparently, it's also almost time for turkey sandwiches: the creators of the show have revealed that they drew inspiration out of a pretty famous character from The Sopranos.

In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, married showrunners Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson (The Originals, Narcos) revealed the blueprints for creating the very complex, very traumatized characters that commit some truly atrocious acts (murder and presumed cannibalism among them) after their plane crashes in the wilderness.

"Tony Soprano is an absolute monster — but, because he's so well drawn, you understand him," Lyle explained of the cult classic's mobster lead. "That's what we're aiming for."

She went on, "We have conversations about what could be too far, but it's less about likability for the characters and more about the type of story. We never want to be shocking and salacious for the sheer joy of it."

All this from a slice of gabagool?

The new instalment of Yellowjackets premieres tomorrow (March 24). Watch the latest trailer below.
